What does a packing service include?

This is a common question. The answer is it can include anything you want it to. Every customer and job is different so we can tailor the packing service to suit your requirements. We generally offer two main packages, a full packing service and a part packing service.

Full packing service

This is exactly how it sounds. We will arrive, usually the day before (this is flexible to suit you) with a van full of packing materials including boxes, tape, packing paper and more. We then go through the entire house including garages, sheds etc and literally begin to pack everything into boxes. The general rule is if it fits in a box, it should go in one. This will include cupboards, clothing, toys, books, kitchenware, ornaments and anything else. All fragile items such as glassware, china, ornaments will be carefully wrapped and boxed ensuring they make it to the new home in one piece. Whilst this is a full packing service, many customers ask us to leave certain things for them to pack themselves, maybe personal possessions, private paperwork etc and we will be happy to leave boxes for you to do this.

Part packing service

This again can be tailored to what the customer wants. Some customers ask us to only pack their fragile items, so we will turn up before the move with a range of packing materials and carefully wrap and pack those precious belongings. Other customers ask us to pack the rest of the house and leave the fragile items to them. Some ask us to pack a certain room, usually the kitchen as this is the most time-consuming part of packing. Just tell us what you want us to pack and will happily offer a price to do so.

Is a packing service good value?

Nearly everyone gets caught out by just how many boxes they will need for their move. Most people have more stuff than they realise, and all of that takes up a lot of boxes. The cost of our packing service is often very competitive when you consider the costs you will encounter self-packing. Buying boxes, tape, bubblewrap etc is expensive now, especially when you consider it is not uncommon for an average 3 bed home to need in excess of 70-80 boxes. There are also things to consider like would you need to take time off work to pack yourself? All of this should be considered when you decide if a packing service represents good value for you.

Packing service FAQs

How much does a packing service cost? We always recommend having a home survey as this allows us to fully calculate the volume to be packed. In order to be accurate we need to know the amount of cupboards and what is inside them, type of items to pack, for example books are a lot quicker to pack than a cabinet full of fragile ornaments and more. This allows us to calculate how many staff we need to send, how many boxes and materials will be required and how long it will take to pack. We can then work out the cost and send this to you for you to consider.

How long will it take to pack a house? Every house is different so like above, we would want to visit to confirm. Most houses can be packed up in a day with the right amount of staff but some may need more or less, depending on volume and what there is to pack.

When does a removal company pack for you? Generally we try to pack the day before the move as this minimises disruption to you. This isn’t always possible and sometimes the customer prefers it earlier, so we will work with you to ensure the least disruption for you.

Do I need to be there when the removal company pack? We build up a great trust with our customers and many choose to let us attend and pack whilst they go to work, or take the kids out for example. The main benefit of a packing service is that you save time and stress, so whether you want to at home, or out and about making use of the extra time, that is fine with us.

Do removal companies provide packing boxes? If you choose for us to pack for you then all packing materials are included in the packing price. If you choose to self-pack we other options including pre-used boxes that are available.

What happens to all the packing boxes after I move? We will happily come and collect any packing materials once you are moved in and unpacked. We just ask that you contact us when you are ready and flat pack the boxes for us and we will come and collect. This way they can be reused which is good for the environment.

If you still have questions then please do not hesitate to contact us to find out more.

Self packing FAQs

Packing services are not for everyone, some people want to save on the cost and pack themselves and some may have the time to pack themselves. If you choose to pack yourself then below are some of the common questions we get asked.

What type of boxes should I use? We recommend using double-walled packing boxes which provide extra strength. Smaller boxes should be used for heavier items such as books, whilst medium boxes should be used for toys, clothes etc and larger boxes for items such as lamps or lighter larger objects. You can also use suitcases for clothes and any plastic storage boxes you have.

How to pack boxes? You should pad out the bottom of the box with crushed paper or cushions and then pack heavier items, followed by lighter items on top. Pack boxes fully and pad out with more paper/cushions. Then seal the boxes securely with good strong tape and mark on the box what is inside and what room you want the box to go to.

When should I start packing? We always encourage our customers to start packing as soon as possible. This allows you the opportunity to de-clutter and think about what items you wish to take with you. Start with items that you will not need before the house move and leave all essential items until the end.

Do drawers need to be emptied? Providing the drawers can be removed from the unit then we advise to leave clothes, bedding, linen etc inside the drawers. There is no need to remove and pack. Any heavier items including breakables and paperwork would need to be removed and packed separately. Hanging clothes can stay in the wardrobes as we will being wardrobe cartons on the day.

If you need any assistance or advice, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to help.
