What does a removal company do?

A good removal company can offer a complete removal service making your move as stress-free as possible. As well as moving your belongings safely a removal company can offer additional services such as a packing service, supplying packing boxes, secure storage and many more.  They will ensure that on the day you are given the required amount of staff and vehicles needed to move you efficiently. If you are restricted by time and need to be out of your current home by Midday for completion, then make your movers aware of this and consider this when choosing which removal company to use or whether to use a ‘man & van’ service as they may not have the required man power or number of vans needed. How much does a removal cost?

There is no set charge for a removal and there are a number of factors that can dictate the cost. The main factors are volume of belongings to move, access at both the old and new property (can removal vehicles park close by etc) and number of staff/vehicles required to move you successfully. Due to these factors, Empire Removals always recommend visiting beforehand to accurately quote for the move. Running a professional, legal removal company comes with many costs which means removal costs are often not cheap. We do offer a 3 monthly payment plan for removals, so please enquire for more information.

Do you offer free quotes for removals?

Yes we do. We will come out to you at a time to suit you to carry out a removal quotation survey. This will not take long, the aim is to get a better understanding of your move including volume of belongings to move, access and parking for our vans etc. We appreciate many people will be busy so we can come round in the evening or weekends if that suits you better. Once we have attended we will then email you your removal quote the same day.

When should I book my removal company?

It is advisable to secure your removal firm at the earliest possible opportunity. Even if you do not have a confirmed move date you can still contact local companies and get quotations and choose your preferred company. You can then inform the chosen company and keep in contact regarding dates. Most removal companies will ask for a deposit payment to secure their services.

What kind of vehicles will a removal company use?

Removal vehicles vary from smaller vans right up to large wagons. It is important to ensure you know what size vehicles your chosen removal company will be using on the day as this is vital. If they have not been out to quote then they could turn up with too small a van which won’t fit everything in, or perhaps they turn up with a larger van and you live down a narrow lane which they can’t access. We generally use 3.5tonne Luton vans with access to a number of them should they be needed. Luton vans are perfect for removals and can generally get into most tight access locations (with some rare exceptions!). 

Do removal companies supply packing materials?

Most reputable removal companies will be able to offer a supply of packing boxes either free of charge or at a cost. Using specialist packing boxes provided by removal companies can help protect your belongings as well as make for easier loading and less space consuming in the removal van. Empire Removals offer a range of packing materials from boxes and tape to bubble wrap and packing paper.

What happens if my move date changes?

House moves can be complex and dates can change at late notice on a regular basis. Removal companies will be used to this and should be able to accommodate this. Notify your chosen mover as soon as you know your date has changed and find out the options available to you. Some movers have heavy penalties for changing the dates so beware of this and always read the terms and conditions of your quotations.

How many staff will a removal company bring?

This depends on the size of your move and the amount that needs moving. When a removal company attends beforehand to quote for your move they will note how many staff will be required to successfully carry out your move. This is another reason it is important to have a quotation visit before your move date.

How do my belongings get protected?

Moving your home contents is not just a case of throwing it all in a van and unloading it. There are various methods when it comes to loading and stacking removal vans that will ensure safe transportation of your goods. A good removal company will load, stack and deliver correctly in a safe and secure way. At Empire Removals we use carpet protectors, mattress protectors, lifting aids and heavy duty removal blankets to help with this. Using our packing service can also reduce the chances of any damage as well.

Will my carpets be protected?

Living in the UK there is a fair chance your removal day will be a rainy one! A good removal company will lay down carpet protectors upon arrival, as well as use further protection for your belongings such as mattress and sofa covers.
